What to eat in Tierra Estella: discover the typical flavours of Navarre

Navarre is a land rich in landscapes, culture and, of course, flavour. And if we are talking about flavour, Tierra Estella is a gastronomic paradise where tradition and quality go hand in hand. From garden produce to wines with Designation of Origin, cheeses, sweets and liqueurs, here eating well is not an option: it is part of the experience.

If you are planning a trip to Camping Acedo, we tell you which products you can't miss and where to try them.

1. Idiazábal cheese: a taste of tradition

One of the star products of northern Navarre is Idiazábal cheese, made from Latxa sheep's milk. With an intense flavour and firm texture, it is a cheese that has been recognised for its quality both nationally and internationally.

Where to try it?

Very close to the campsite, in Lezaun, you will find the Aldaia Cheese Factory, where they make artisan cheese following traditional methods. You can visit them and buy cheese directly from the dairy. It is also a good place to find out how cheese is produced and to support local producers.

2. Wines from Tierra Estella: the best version of D.O. Navarra

Navarra is a land of vineyards, and the area of Tierra Estella forms part of the Navarra Designation of Origin. Here, red, white and rosé wines of excellent quality are produced, perfect to accompany any meal or to enjoy on a terrace at sunset.

Where to try them?
You can visit wineries such as Lezaun (in Lácar), Aroa (in Zurucuain), or Castillo de Monjardín in Villamayor de Monjardín, where as well as tasting their wines, you will discover the wine-growing landscape that surrounds the area.
In Estella, we recommend a stop at Restaurante Navarra, a traditional restaurant with good cuisine and a selection of local wines for pairing.

3. Garden produce: peppers and asparagus

Navarre boasts one of the best market gardens in the country, and this is no coincidence. Products are grown here that have achieved fame for their flavour and texture, such as the asparagus from navarra (recognised with PGI) and piquillo peppers.

Where to find them?
During the season (April-May for asparagus and September-October for peppers), they are sold at local markets, gastronomic fairs and local produce shops.
You can also try them in restaurants such as Casa Luisa (Ayegui), where they prepare recipes with seasonal produce and quality home cooking.

4. Pacharán: a liqueur with Navarrese character

There is no traditional Navarrese meal that does not end with a good pacharán, the typical liqueur made from macerated sloes. With a deep, sweet flavour, it is one of the great gastronomic ambassadors of the area.

Where to buy it?
You have two high quality local options:

  • Pacharán Azanza, made in Abárzuza, a village a few kilometres from the campsite.
  • Pacharán Zoco, made in Dicastillo, one of the best known brands, with history and tradition.

Both can be found in specialised shops, supermarkets and fairs.

5. Sweets, sausages and artisan products

As well as the star products, don't forget to try other local flavours such as honey, jams, homemade sausages and traditional pastries. They are ideal for taking a little piece of Navarre home with you and continuing to savour your trip.

Camping, gastronomy and good living

Enjoying Tierra Estella also means sitting at the table, discovering new flavours and letting yourself be surprised by an honest cuisine, based on the produce and the environment. From Camping Acedo, you are just a stone's throw away from everything: wineries, cheese dairies, restaurants and local producers that will open the doors to the real Navarre. And don't forget that at the campsite we have our own restaurant, where you can taste many of the products of the land.

Are you up for a taste of the land?
